Cornflower (Marelle)
We say
Within thirty seconds, this tranquil and beautiful collaboration between award-winning Scottish composer Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet and Love Actually) and Elbow’s Guy Garvey, quite simply, blew us away with its sheer beauty and soothing tones. Originally written for solo piano and 12 strings, it’s a stunning reimagination that came about after Craig, an admirer of Guy’s and Elbow’s work, asked whether he ‘wanna do something’. Destined for chilled and focus based contextual playlists across streaming services, Cornflower (Marelle) has already received its first radio play on Shaun Keaveny’s BBC 6Music show yesterday and last week had its video premiere on the Telegraph. Released last Friday as a standalone single, Armstrong will be performing this version live with Garvey at Union Chapel in London on 11 September alongside other tracks from his forthcoming new album Sun on You (7 September) and some of his best-known film music. A delicate, moving and uplifting composition of the highest quality.
