L'etat C'est Moi
We say
L'etat C'est Moi by Manchester-based alt-rock trio The Blinders is one hell of a politically charged statement of intent from one of the fastest rising bands in the UK at the moment. Having met at school in Doncaster, Thomas Haywood (guitar, vocals, words), Charlie McGough (bass guitar), and Matthew Neale (drums, backing vocals) were originally inspired by local heroes Arctic Monkeys to form a band. Now drawing on influences from the 60s, dystopian literature and artists such as the Smiths, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Roger Waters, the Blinders are leading the vanguard of a new discontented generation of guitar bands. Produced by Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden Studios, L'etat C'est Moi is the second single to be lifted from their forthcoming debut album (due September) and is a thunderbolt to the senses. Fuelled by a feral and primal power, the track has been garnering tastemaker praise from the likes of Clash, Louder Than War and Breaking More Waves among others, as well as currently sitting on BBC 6 Music’s C playlist. Previous radio support has come from the likes Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Daniel P Carter, Radio X’s John Kennedy, and Steve Lamacq, who recently had the band on his show for a BBC Music Introducing Session. The band who have just played two sold-out shows at the Borderline in London and Gorilla in Manchester will be back on the road this October and November for an extensive headline UK tour to support the release of the album. Brash, bold and engaging, this is a rallying cry from one of the most exciting young bands around.
