Cheat
We say
With over four million combined streams for her first two singles (Bitch & Girlfriend at the Time), 22-year-old Emily Burns is back with yet another infectious dose of biting pop. As readers will know, we have been mightily impressed with her exquisite knack of writing modern and frank pop songs about ex-girlfriends, love and revenge. Her new single, Cheat, written with newcomer LMBY doesn’t disappoint as she vents freely about a sudden break-up over a catchy blend of bouncing beats, earworm hooks and bubblegum electro-pop vibes. Likened to Charli XCX, MØ, Sigrid and Tove Lo by online tastemaker admirers the Line of Best Fit, Popjustice, and Disco Naïveté, she has also garnered support at Spotify with additions to New Music Friday, BAE and Fresh & Chill editorial playlists. Tomorrow night she will be performing at her single launch show at Strongroom in London before heading off to play at the various Dot to Dot festivals over the weekend. But if you can’t catch her at any of these then we recommend you clear your diaries for 1 August as she will be headlining the Seabright Arms. Contagious and radio-friendly pop.
