Better
We say
Back at the start of March, we featured the brilliant debut single, Colorless, from Swedish newcomer Shaqdi and this sultry gem is her second offering from her forthcoming debut EP out in May. Taking its cues from the likes of Smino, Masego and Xavier Omar in the US urban scene, Better, on the surface, is a slow, seductive urban jam with hazy, jazz-filled vibes. However, underneath the superb production, Shaqdi’s message is about rejecting society’s expectations and the male gaze to be who you want to be. Released last week, the track has garnered some serious tastemaker love from Notion, Hilly Dilly and The Line of Best Fit premiered her video by producer and filmmaker Zagor. Like her debut, Better was added to several European Spotify New Music Friday playlists and proves that alongside support from Dummy, Complex and Jamz Supernova, Shaqdi is a rising new talent to watch out for in 2018. She will be playing tracks from her debut EP live at the Old Queens Head in London this Thursday, which we recommend you check out. Absorbing and intelligent R&B.
