Englishman
We say
London-based Jake Morrell is an emerging singer-songwriter who combines beautifully strummed English folk melodies with trademark Nashville sounds. Having been discovered in 2016 by Dermot O’Leary on his BBC Radio 2 show after his mum sent him his Brett Shaw (Florence & The Machine, Dry The River) produced Wire & Thorns debut track, the Norfolk native was personally invited by Emily Eavis to perform at Glastonbury that year. Since then he has been honing his craft, gigging across London and working with writers on new material. His new single, Englishman, written with Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Kipper (Sting & Gary Numan) was released last Friday ahead of his well-received performances at this year’s Country to Country (C2C) music festival in London. Taken from his forthcoming EP of the same name, the track is the long-awaited follow up to his debut EP, The Greenline, and on evidence of this gorgeously rich and uplifting country anthem, it seems we have a new rising British country star in Jake Morrell.
