How To Be Cool
We say
Originally from Slovenia, and now based in California’s Silicon Valley, 20-year old Anja Kotar is a talented singer-songwriter and musician whose electro R&B pop sound fits neatly alongside the likes of Charli XCX and Betty Who. She moved to the U.S. five years ago to study at VC Conservatory, where she picked up multiple awards and nominations for her work writing, performing and directing musicals. Anja’s responsible for every aspect of her overall styling and sound here, and she worked on her debut album NOMAD with three-time Grammy nominee Pascal Guyon and L.A. vocal coach Micah Plissner. Inspired by the vocal filters you’d hear on classic tracks by Prince, the electronic 80’s drum sound that ran through many of Phil Collins enormous hits of that era, and the more contemporary work of acts like The Weekend and Lana Del Rey lyrically, this song from the album explores the angst and influences that all teens and 20-somethings go through in their attempt to unravel the demands of modern living. Slick and brilliantly conceived, it's confident, memorable intro to a true future star.
