We say
TV and film music supervisors in particular ought to be aware of this latest work from composer/producer Iain Campbell. Ex Makina is the latest project for the musician who first featured on Record of the Day when he was 20, and whose early profile back then enabled him to make invaluable global connections, ending up in his current role as an assistant to Harry Gregson-Williams, one of the world’s top Hollywood composers. This dramatic, cinematic debut release under that Ex Makina alias beautifully melds strings (courtesy of Coldplay’s arranger John Metcalfe) with electronic beats and striking vocals from Iain's wife Rebecca Campbell. So far, it's racked up tens of thousands of YouTube views, a front-page Yahoo Music feature, and an upcoming one with Nylon. So it's truly connecting beyond a niche soundtrack fanbase. Mixed by Ed Sheeran’s engineer Joe Rubel, we love the moody widescreen imagery that it conjures up. Unusual and memorable, who knows what new unexpected doors will open up for Iain as a result of people hearing this current exciting venture?
