20-year old Ben Brown is an aspiring singer-songwriter from north-west London, currently studying at the University Of Leeds, and this promising debut single details the story of a one-night stand there along with the days of sourness that inevitably followed it. Ben first picked up a guitar at the age of seven, growing up listening to Guns N’ Roses, Oasis and The Beatles, eventually finding his way as lead singer in a school band by the age of 12. In his teens, inspired by artists including Ed Sheeran and Newton Faulkner, he crafted his own style of music with multi-layers of electric guitar riffs over his acoustic songs. This fine single uses that technique, neatly building from an opening a catchy vocal line. It landed him a place on iTunes Singer-Songwriter Top 10 on the day of release, which is no mean feat for an independent artist, and all via a label that’s run by his fellow student Josh Brickman. Already a favourite with the team at Sofar Sounds in London, expect Ben’s profile to build and his audience to grow with it thanks to songs as honest, relatable and accomplished as this.
