Suicide Feast
We say
Already championed by the great Tom Robinson at BBC 6 Music, this energetic track comes from Vile Assembly, a trio of friends whose intention is to create songs that’ll blow the whistle on the unjust society in which we live today. You have to go way back to the turbulent times when Johnny Rotten scowled his way through Anarchy In The UK, or the politicised works of Joe Strummer and Jerry Dammers to find anything as comparable as the frustration and anger expressed here in this debut single. Sharp, pointed lyrics, delivered in a catchy, punchy and memorable way allows the listener to absorb the message of how we seem hugely desensitised to the enormous problem of homelessness on Britain’s streets. Even ahead of its official release, it’s been picked up by alternative radio stations across Europe, the US and Canada. The band’s debut EP Elephant In The Room and their album in October promise even more thought-provoking work to explore. Offering a true point of difference to almost all of today’s cookie-cutter R&B pop offerings, this is a welcome and powerful release.
