Blood
We say
The first thing that hits on on this wonderful track by Cult Of Helix is that relentless four-note xylophone hook that pushes the entire thing along, bubbling away under the surface. Dark and powerful, it underpins everything in a menacing, almost unsettling kind of way, but you’ll be powerless to resist, in much the same way that we imagine anyone drawn into any cult would be. This particular cult is an exciting new project from Hayley Mary, vocalist with the award-winning Australian band The Jezabels, whom we’ve featured many times in the past. Here she’s hooked up with two London-based producers James and Michael Dow, from the band Portasound, and this is the first taster from a forthcoming album by the three-piece. The unsettling but beautifully filmed video has just premiered on Noisey and points the way further as to what we might expect next from this fascinating project. They describe it as the first sermon that invites us all to their somewhat chaotic club The Disorder of 23. Like us, we expect you'll find the enigmatic offer impossible to succumb to.
