'Cos Of You
We say
The life of Frankie Oliver has been fascinating so far. Discovered in the early '90s by Trevor Wyatt and signed to Island Records, he recorded his debut album in Jamaica with the legendary Sly & Robbie and many of reggae's all-time great musicians. However, with young kids back home, the pop star lifestyle kept him away from his family for long periods. Combined with the pressures of being on a major label, he jacked it all in to become a London cabbie. But his love of music, writing and performing still bubbled away under the surface. Two years ago, he began a journey that’s now led him to a new album Here I Am, and this brilliantly authentic soulful song that’s already had several spot plays on Radio 2, sounding like a long-lost classic from back in the day. He played a sold-out show at London’s 100 Club last night (June 7), and that voice remains immaculate on this track, which is an emotional heartfelt song about the loss of his mother. Understated yet passionate in equal measure, it proves that real soul is timeless and never leaves you. It's so great to have him back.
