Fool Like Me
We say
We can always rely on our Scandi friends to enchant us with something absolutely beautiful at The Great Escape, and this year is no exception. Penny Police is the alias of Copenhagen musician Marie Fjeldsted, and five years on from her debut album breakthrough, her work remains spellbinding. She was nominated as the Best Female Artist twice in three years at Denmark’s annual prestigious Gaffa awards, and has earned rave reviews following a string of acclaimed performances at industry showcases, including Iceland Airwaves. After she played live in London last year, the NSPCC charity adopted her song I Do Care as the anthem for their Safe & Sound UK campaign across TV and online. It’s her lyrics that seem to connect at a very deep and emotional level with the listener, once that unique voice grabs your attention. Hopefully you caught her TGE show in Brighton with Karousel Music last night (May 18) at Marlborough Pub & Theatre. This immaculately produced single follows up No Horizon, and is oh-so delicate, elegant and tender. It's pristine Nordic pop at its very best.
