Waiting On A Feeling
We say
New Zealand four-piece Shakes first came to our attention at the back-end of last summer, when we featured their excellent song and EP Strange Tides. With its jangly guitars and uplifting melody, it was a bit of a sun-filled gem. Now the band return with another absolute delight. Driven along by a fabulous bassline riff that runs throughout the track, it’s another neat three-and-a-half minutes that draws from so many genres and influences to create something which wouldn’t have sounded out of place during the baggy or Madchester eras, but transcends that period to still sound contemporary and cool. Written, recorded and produced by singer/guitarist Alex Wildwood at his home studio whilst living on New Zealand’s picturesque east coast, it’s imbued with a killer groove inspired by both 70’s funk and hip-hop at times. The video recently premiered via Wonderland and the band are currently seeking publishing interest to help push things to the next level. They deserve it. Their influences clearly show they adore pop’s rich global history in all its various forms. And this is a cracking tune.
