Phantom (Femme Fatale)
We say
From the opening twangy guitar chords, dripping in reverb and sounding like a long-lost gem Quentin Tarantino could have unearthed for one of his movies, you know you’re in for something rather glorious. Juice & Albert are Joss Elder and Alex Blamire, the Newcastle-based duo behind this absolute delight, and combine influences such as John Barry and Ennio Morricone to create a beautiful bold sound that is rooted in the nostalgic feel of their heroes, but arrives as a perfect escapist antidote to the modern world today. Currently a studio-based project, this is their third release and follow-up to previous single Wait In The Dark, but it sees them spin off into a new direction, taking things to a whole new level from just being a work-in-progress project over the past couple of years. This track reminds us too of artists like The Coral or Chris Isaak, and we’d love to hear this performed live - the duo say plans are afoot to do so later this year. The north-east of England seems to be a hotbed of musical creativity just now, and these boys have just aced things with this mighty track.
