If you’re attending Eurosonic over the next few days, Soffía Björg is a noteworthy artist that you must seek out. She made a name for herself at the end of last year at Reykjavik’s Iceland Airwaves festival and is about to release her self-titled debut album this spring, produced and mixed by Ben Hillier, who’s worked with Blur, Elbow, Depeche Mode and Doves among others. Soft twangy Americana sounds underpin her emotional heartfelt vocals here on this track, which follows up her also-excellent I Lie. She’s already had glowing reviews from several key tastemaker blogs including The Line Of Best Fit, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound and Crack In The Road. At Eurosonic this Friday (January 13), she performs two gigs - the first is a lunchtime in-store at Platosonic (Coffee Company), ahead of her official showcase later that day, just before midnight at the Kerkzaal in Lutherse Kerk. Her music has a wonderful widescreen, cinematic quality to it, offering her own unique folk-influenced spin on indie guitar rock. Like your first intoxicating breath of Icelandic air, this song is pure, fresh and magical.
