Mohawk Radio are gaining a reputation as a formidable live act and are about to push things to the next level with the forthcoming release of their five-track EP Shoot From The Hip. If you didn’t know otherwise, you’d think it was Cher rocking like a demon on lead vocals. Fronted by Mia Page, her range and power is hugely impressive, as the Manchester-based four-piece blast through a powerful Clint Murphy-produced anthem that’s a real statement of intent from the off. Mia arrived in the UK in 2012 from Bermuda, where she’d admired Manchester legends Oasis and The Stones Roses from afar. An online ad was the catalyst to bring her to her spiritual home and hook up with the rest of the band. She says this song was clearly written with the festival season in mind, and it shows. After a recent London gig at 229, The Venue on Great Portland Street, they’re back there on February 11 to launch the EP. Brilliantly executed with formidable confidence that the year ahead is theirs for the taking, this punchy track is one vital, intoxicating shot in the arm from an exciting band you should watch closely.
