Each year, ten emerging artists receive a European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) to mark their success in countries other than their own. Measured on airplay, sales, and live performances in Europe, Dua Lipa is this year’s British winner, and this track sets up the release of her debut album, due on February 10. It’s been a superb year for her with over 160 million Spotify streams, 150 million YouTube views, worldwide single sales of more than two million, and huge international success already for this song, which hit No.1 on iTunes in 16 countries, went double platinum in Australia, platinum in Holland, Belgium and Italy, and Gold in Germany. She’s also a nominee for the BRITs Critics Choice award, along with Anne-Marie and Rag’n’Bone Man. The EBBA award ceremony takes place on January 11 in the Dutch city of Groningen, and she’ll feature on the Jools Holland-hosted TV show that night. This great track taps perfectly into the contemporary global pop sound and lyrically talks of self belief whilst aiming high to achieve your goals. The year ahead is hers for the taking.
