She's Desperate
We say
With a debut EP set for early 2017, Reykjavik Kids formed 1,000 miles away from the Icelandic capital, despite the name. Scott Munro and Paul Tissington established themselves as a duo in Newcastle two years ago, using cheap synths and beat-up guitars at home to record their initial demos. With a tight urgency to their sound, the punk DIY ethos combined alongside dance and modern indie, and last year found a home with Tigre Fair, the boutique London-based label who then put out the self-titled debut single for the lads as part of Record Store Day 2015. When they perform live, they use a full band to create a huge soundscape and a lively stage show. They spent summer 2015 supporting cult-LA group Happy Hollows, and their next London show is on November 3 at Camden’s Black Heart. Musically, we’re reminded of early White Lies or Maximo Park, but with more of a pop twist you’d often find with many great mid-80’s bands who remained cool whilst having major hit singles. Punchy, crunchy and buzzy, the fire in their bellies burns through, leaving a real lasting impression.
