We say
Kevin Pearce is an Essex-based artist worth alerting you to, if he’s not already on your radar. It’s two years since his critically acclaimed album Dynamite was released and the follow-up will arrive next spring, so this is the first taster of the direction he’s moving in. Think of it as ‘folktronica’. He’s grown his loyal core fan base over the past few years, thanks to support slots with Beth Orton, Turin Brakes and more. This latest work sees him experimenting with his usual sound, combining the sort of electronic music that his artist friends from I Monster and I Speak Machine make, and blending it in a unique way with the more acoustic, organic tones we’ve heard from his tracks to date. Steve Lamacq and Dermot O’Leary are fans, and The Independent have compared his voice in range and quality to that of the great Cat Stevens. He plays live at The Square Club in Bristol tonight (October 12) and a forthcoming London date at Servant Jazz Quarters is being lined up for November. Beautifully chilled, exquisitely layered and textured, lovingly crafted - this is an immaculate track you'll fall in love with.
