The first thing that hits you on this official debut release from Caswell is that voice. Then it's the super-sparse dark electronic production rumbling away beautifully below it all. It’s a taster from a forthcoming EP, due later this year, for the 21-year-old south London-based singer songwriter, who made her first tentative musical steps in 2013 by uploading a track to Soundcloud. She’s a BRIT School graduate whose peers included Sasha Keable, King Krule, Billie Black, Flo Morrissey and Shivum Sharma. Caswell’s own influences include Lana Del Rey, Susanne Sundfør and Little Dragon, and you’ll hear nods to them and many jazz legends in her impressively controlled vocal delivery throughout this sublime song. She’s co-written and sung on projects with Rinse FM and Rob Spragg, supported Seye and Maxi Jazz from Faithless, and showcased Fury at an intimate showcase at Tape London. Online blogs including Indietronica, Purple Melon, Soundplate, Press Play OK are already buzzing about her. Time for us to throw our hat in the ring too, because this song is rather magical indeed.
