Runaway
We say
With echoes of See You Again by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa, this powerful track is the official debut single from Warner Newman, released on his own label through A.W.A.L/Kobalt. Its urban-pop sound coats a personal tale that sadly so many people can relate to, that of domestic abuse. And it’s a subject matter that Warner has personal experience of. After a hellish childhood at home, at school and beyond, he found solace in music, experiencing an epiphany when he witnessed a live video of Queen, and saw how Freddie Mercury was able to take command of the whole audience. He vowed to one day do the same, and his words on this great track are dedicated to every woman and child who’s suffering at the hands of another right now. Linking with national charity Women’s Aid, he hopes to bring this difficult subject matter into the media spotlight, to affect change, doing so in such an accessible way. Never preachy, yet always compelling throughout, his gritty vocal is juxtaposed with the hopeful female chorus hook to create a stunning song that’ll stay with you long after its first play.
