Second Nature
We say
Effortlessly cool and hugely addictive, this marvellous track from New York-based artist Stalking Gia has stacked up more than 1.5 million Spotify plays, thanks to an immense word of mouth buzz. Having featured on the Boombox Cartel track Dancing With Fire, which Annie Nightingale played on her Radio 1 show earlier this month, and her own viral debut War Paint, now comes this glorious single. We heard Phil Taggart give it a late-night play last weekend and expect more specialist support will come. But this definitely has the potential to break as a fully-fledged crossover smash worldwide. The immaculate production leaves vast room to breathe, with a slinky bass line and handclaps providing the ultimate after-dark minimalist groove before a chilled vocal (expressing vulnerability and insecurity in a new relationship) pushes things along and you’re instantly hooked. Her publishing deal is with Warner/Chappell, but the track is currently unsigned for the UK at present. On this one song alone, we could be looking at one of 2017’s hippest breakout superstars.
