The Believers
We say
Every once in a while it's wise to acknowledge the continued success of a legendary British band that may not be on your radar if you only spend your time focussed on fresh emerging acts. Deacon Blue is one such band, and their forthcoming album could be their biggest in 20 years. One of Scotland’s most enduring acts, classics like Dignity, Chocolate Girl and Real Gone Kid helped them shift millions of albums and they remain a firm live draw, as proved by a recent 10,000 capacity sold-out gig at Aintree Racecourse and a Royal Festival Hall show on November 17. This track comes from their third new album since reforming in 2012 and is a solid, invigorating piano-driven guitar anthem, produced by Paul Savage (noted for his work with Mogwai and King Creosote) that plays to all their strengths. It’s already sounded right at home as Radio 2’s Record of The Week and hits the B List this weekend. All fired up, with a catalogue to die for, and with fine new songs like this to add to their setlist, they prove it’s shrewd to look beyond emerging hipsters if you want to sell music and gig tickets in 2016.
