Hey Stranger
We say
You don't normally associate Denmark with authentic old-skool R&B but Black Dylan is a project that hopes to flip that perception on its head. The duo comprises of hip-hop producer Nuplex and his friend Wafande, a well-known name in Scandinavia as he’s coached contestants on The Voice Junior and had platinum album success as an artist in his own right. His childhood was spent in Copenhagen’s Christiana (the same district as 2016’s biggest new act Lukas Graham) but his teenage years were spent in France, absorbing his dad's blues collection. Those influences shape the sound here, and it’s already been well-received with early support from Blues & Soul Magazine, Robert Elms at BBC Radio London (where it's also been added to the playlist) and from music journalist Paul Sexton, who gave this its debut UK play recently on BBC Radio 2. Tonight (July 5) they support former Lighthouse Family singer Tunde in London at Under The Bridge before heading into Soho for the regular TV Nights showcase upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s. This is smart retro-soul with a neat pop twist.
