Gundelach is an artist who’s already impressed the Record of the Day team with his shows at both by:Larm in his native Norway and the recent Spot festival in Denmark. We were first drawn to him via debut single Spiders at the end of last year. That song generated millions of streams around the world and, after reaching No.1 on Hype Machine internationally, a certain Pharrell Williams picked up on the buzz and featured him on his Beats1 radio show. Now Gundelach has landed slots at some of the summer’s biggest music festivals including Roskilde next month and Øya in Oslo this August. He’s familiar to switched-on London audiences too with his Ja Ja Ja headliner set and now comes his debut EP, co-produced by Joel Ford. He’s our first must-see recommendation for The Great Escape when he plays an afternoon gig at The Hope & Ruin on Saturday May 21. This is a magnificent chilled track that skilfully combines modern electronic pop with a real '70s US west coast vibe - the sort of thing you could imagine would have worked beautifully on the soundtrack to cult movie Drive. It’s a real triumph.
