Truth Attention
We say
Sometimes, you're instantly drawn to a track but you simply can’t pigeonhole what genre tag to give it. That’s exactly what happened when we first listened to this from Midwest Soul Xchange. Their name may wrong-foot you for starters. The intro has echoes of Metallica’s epic Nothing Else Matters before pulling away into an accomplished blend of Americana, folk roots and protest songs of old, edgy fresh country from today, classic rock, and even touches of the much-heralded new prog sound that we’re hearing shine through with lots of young UK bands right now as well. Ryan Summers and Nate Cherrier are two friends, one based in Wisconsin and the other in Phoenix, who recently released their debut album project New American Century and have been know to describe their work simply as ‘American Melancholia’. With favourable reviews across The Huffington Post, Nashville Music Guide and US college radio CMJ adds, it’s a sound that’ll resonate with those who understand their music history and how we arrived at where we are today with a myriad of past styles that brought us here.
