We say
Spring King are the Manchester-based band who jumped into the spotlight last summer, much to their surprise, when Zane Lowe selected their song City to launch Apple’s Beats 1 service. At the time they were unsigned, but now comes their major label debut. Released today (February 11) after its premiere as Annie Mac's Hottest Record last night, it’s a tight, urgent sound that has echoes of Manc heroes from the Factory Records golden era, but remains distinctly a product of now - lyrically dark and moody yet with a frenetic driving rhythm pushing it all along, and it grows with every play. They’ve started a headline UK tour which lands in London for a sold-out NME show at the 100 Club next Tuesday (February 16). This song is a first taste of what to expect from their debut album later this year, and they’ve just been announced as support on Kaiser Chiefs’ big summer gigs. With plays already across the board from Clara, Greg, Annie, Huw & Phil at Radio 1 and a place on 6 Music's A List, these boys could easily end up being one of the hottest British breakthrough acts of the year.
