We say
Within thirty seconds of hitting play on this impressive track from newcomers MUDDYLOOP, you’re instantly transported back to the mid-80’s sound of radio-friendly R&B pop-funk that’s loaded with synth hooks. You’ll hear Prince as a key influence along with acts like Jodeci, Jacko and even Shalamar. But there’s a 21st Century twist in the mix too, one you'd expect on a Daft Punk or Mark Ronson album. The band are a London-based four-piece comprising of writers and producers Blonde Peterson and Metro Williams alongside vocalists Marvin Ambrosius and Lucy Lawrence. They’re busy rehearsing a live set whilst also finishing up production on their 14-track album We Are Light, due this coming summer. We’re promised nothing less than collection of upbeat pop monsters and on the evidence of this track, they’re setting out their stall early. Their New Toy EP comes next in March. It’s rare that you hear something so joyful and unpretentious in pop these days right from the off. MUDDYLOOP deserve to utterly dominate 2016, not just in the UK but at a global level. This is superb.
