Stormy
We say
Beck Wood and John Ridgard are Coves and this track is the first single from the Brit-duo’s forthcoming second album, scheduled for release this coming March. With their 2014 debut album Soft Friday, they won a host of fans at UK radio who continue to support them including Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Radcliffe & Maconie at 6Music, Huw Stephens at Radio 1, John Kennedy at Radio X and Danielle Perry at Absolute, all of whom have played this lively single several times. Their sound here is all the best indie from the past 40 years distilled into one joyous three-minute workout thanks to great production from producer Cam Blackwood (who’s worked with George Ezra and London Grammar). Searing guitar riffs, reverb-drenched vocals and retro-fuelled vibes make for one hell of a ride that is best heard with the volume cranked right up. They next play live in London at Servant Jazz Quarters on January 28. Stormy is triumphant spunky punky-pop with a great passionate melody. We need more of this to shake us out of our pre-2016 malaise.
