Backseat Driver
We say
We’re always a bit of sucker for out-and-out frothy fun and this debut from London-based newcomers Taffy Trouble fits the bill nicely, thanks. Ella and Alex are a pair of long-time school friends who wrote and co-produced this daft slice of lo-fi DIY synth pop in partnership with Neil Comber, who mixed many of the tracks on Charli XCX’s debut album. He’s also worked with M.I.A and the ridiculously-addictive chorus here makes us think this is exactly how she would sound if she was asked to rap an upbeat playground chant for a bunch of pre-teens. With a knowing nod and a toothy grin, that’s its cheeky charm. There’ll be more to come when their debut EP lands early in the new year, something they’re currently working on alongside award winning producer Dimitri Tikiovoi and Ian Watt. They’re seeking artist management at present but we’re incredibly impressed with the online coverage they generated so far from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Going Solo, Wonky Sensitive & more. Very British, very now, Backseat Driver may take them rapidly into the fast lane.
