As Long As
We say
Hailing from the North Yorkshire city of Ripon, teenager Billie Marten stunned us at her recent London gig at House of St. Barnabas by delivering a remarkable live set. This title track is the finale to her four-song EP, and showcases why she’s among the most hotly-tipped British acts right now, as pundits throughout the industry compile their 2016 lists. First and foremost, it’s that immaculate voice that utterly captivates you. It’s one that found favour at Radio 1 with support for last year’s debut EP Ribbon coming from Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton, as well as at 6 Music, Radio 2, Xfm and Amazing Radio. You’d be mislead into thinking that she couldn’t possibly be this assured yet confessional in such early work, but you’d be very wrong. This set of songs was written over the past 12 months whilst studying for her GCSE exams, in between her 400 mile round-trips to London and back to play gigs and attend meetings. Beloved already by broadsheets and tastemaker blogs, this feels like it’s only the beginning for an artist to cherish for decades to come.
