Miss Tati is the alias of singer-songwriter Tatiana Palanca. She was born in Portugal to Angolan parents but raised in Norway. Over the past year she’s been extensively touring there, wowing crowds with her own unique fusion of sounds that take in everything from sixties Motown, through retro soul, hip hop, R&B and afrobeats. Now she’s aiming to engage with an international audience and follow in the footsteps of her musical heroes like jazz legend Sarah Vaughan, D’Angelo and Erykah Badu. Rob da Bank has been a supporter of her music in the past, and we also hear much of what made Saint Etienne’s music so great rubbing off here too - notice that space-age reverb-drenched vocal paired with a distinctive pop sensibility that draws from the best of what’s gone before whilst always pushing things forward for a new audience today, in much the same way that an act like Janelle Monae operates. Her debut album is due next year and hopefully some live UK dates will happen around the same time. One invigorating blast of this and you’ll be smiling all day.
