Currently sitting on Radio 1’s B-list, WSTRN are a London-based trio whose debut single has absolutely caught fire over the past month or so. Akelle Charles, Halle and Louis Rei sparked a major label frenzy when the song debuted and it’s easy to understand why on the very first play. This is a uniquely British take on R&B and hip-hop street sounds, with the emphasis on melody and memorable hooks that grab you immediately. That’s why it’s found favour across the board at Radio 1 with Clara Amfo and Scott Mills in daytime along with early specialist plays from Mistajam and DJ Target. Huge playlist support has also come from Kiss, Capital, Capital Xtra and 1Xtra (with the lads performing last month at the station’s big live event). It’s the only pre-release track in the current Shazam UK Top 5 and is at No.2 on their Future Hits list, having racked up over 165,000 tags to date. With coverage from Noisey, FADER, Clash, i-D, Notion Magazine and Complex Magazine, we’re looking at one of the biggest UK debut crossover smashes of Q4.
