Back in June, we proudly featured My Kinda Swag, the remarkable debut single from unsigned artist Emmi. Within days, Michael Cragg in the Guardian declared it to be ‘one of the highlights of 2015 so far’, and Greg James at Radio 1 jumped on board to play the track. Then Taylor Swift joined the party and endorsed her follow-up tune Sleep On It on Twitter. It subsequently went Top 10 on both Spotify’s Global Viral Chart and US Viral Chart. Dare we advocate that her third single is the best of the trio of releases so far? Written (as the titles suggests) in only 60 minutes, it came when Emmi accepted a challenge just a few weeks ago to come up with a tune during the available spare hour of studio time. Once more, she delivers an R&B-tinged electro pop gem with a wonderfully-controlled vocal and a superb chorus. There are two chances to catch her live in London before the end this month; October 28 at Notting Hill Arts Club, then October 30 at The Old Blue Last. You might want to start rethinking your forthcoming Tips for 2016 lists, if you haven’t already.
