We say

Wakey Wakey is the alias of Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Michael Grubbs. Raised in Richmond, Virginia, he began playing classical piano at the age of five before discovering contemporary artists like Elton John and Billy Joel during his teenage years. He then spent a decade performing at open mic nights in New York City and it’s at this point he met Mark Schwahn, chief writer an Exec Producer on US drama One Tree Hill. He invited him to act in a small recurring role in the series and, most crucially, write music for the show. It led to his well received debut album Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time and from it, a Billboard No.1 on their Heatseekers chart for his song War Sweater. In February 2016, he releases his second album Overreactivist, featuring this upbeat acoustic-driven track that’s skilfully built for adult radio formats worldwide. He’s performing at Reeperbahn 2015 this weekend (September 27) then a sold-out London show at Hoxton venue The Courtyard on Wednesday (September 30). Displaying solid musicianship and thoughtful lyrics, his is a winning combination.
