The Colour Blue
We say
Prepare to be whisked away to a comforting place of tranquility and calm as soon as you listen to this sublime song from Ciaran Lavery and Ryan Vail. It’s taken from the album Sea Legs which was released in the spring and is now shortlisted for the Northern Ireland Music Prize. Ciaran is an alt-folk singer with a growing reputation, having racked up more than 22 million Spotify streams to date. Already in 2015 he’s been Zane Lowe’s Next Hype and impressed reviewers at this year’s Great Escape, has a sold-out Irish tour under his belt and is about to enchant audiences across Europe. His collaborator here is Ryan Vail, a minimalist electronic composer who can count Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Phil Taggart as fans alongside Tom Robinson and Tom Ravenscoft at 6 Music. Ryan releases his forthcoming EP in November and debut album early next year whilst Ciaran’s second album is also due in 2016. Ciaran’s next London gig is at The Islington on October 21. Stripped-back, delicate and fragile, this song truly has the ability to move the listener and is a gratifying discovery.
