Bubbilicious
We say
Sometimes in life, a big glorious adrenaline rush of amped-up pop is what’s needed in the music scene to blast away a few cobwebs when malaise sets in. Welcome along Tokyo Taboo to deliver exactly what we’re talking about. Big, brash and boisterous, singer Dolly Daggerz summons up vocal inspiration from the likes of Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wendy James of Transvision Vamp and even the great Lene Lovich here on this rowdy workout. The guitars are cranked firmly up to 11 but it never strays from a killer hook-filled melody running throughout. Available as a free download, it’s the first taster from the duo’s Leech EP, recorded and produced in Los Angeles by Noah Shain, who’s noted for his early production work for Skrillex and hard rock band Dead Sara. Having played CMJ Music Marathon in NYC and Culture Collide in LA, the forthcoming London EP launch is at The Barfly in Camden on November 7. On the evidence of this energetic three-minute power blast, it promises to be a rollicking good night.
