Tech Noir
We say
Epic and grand on a cinematic scale with neat '80s influences, this rather unique track comes from three-piece band Gunship. Sounding like something you’d find lurking deep on the soundtrack to Top Gun or Blade Runner, it starts with a new voice-over from the legendary Hollywood director John Carpenter, and the soaring chorus features a glorious guest vocal from none other than Charlie Simpson, formerly of Busted and soon to be back with his mates in Fightstar. It’s the third track from their self-titled debut album which also features contributions from Lou Hayter of New Young Pony Club and many others. The video for this has been created in Claymation by the award-winning animator Lee Hardcastle (noted for his work with cult TV channel [Adult Swim]). All in all, you’ll hear this and feel like you’ve blown the dust off something very special from 30 years ago, but it all seems so contemporary at the same time. If these guys aren’t creating incidental music for a blockbuster movie or big-budget TV drama in the next 12 months, there’s no justice in this world.
