Brandon Sheer (who we featured last year as an unsigned act and has since landed a publishing deal with Nettwerk) recently tipped us off about his friend Anais Aida, telling us we really had to listen to her. And we’re very glad of his recommendation. Born in Toulouse to a Senegalese father and Franco Italian mother, she was raised in Ireland, France, Senegal and California. Along the way she’s soaked up and embraced a bunch of influences to create a sound that is dramatic, soulful and cinematic in tone. She recently graduated from NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and collaborated with producer Arca (noted for his work with FKA Twigs, Kanye West and Bjork) on this gem of a track. She’s now moved to London and is looking for representation following on from touring with Clean Bandit and Meg Mac at SXSW, Coachella, Glastonbury, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and a host of US dates. Recover is a perfect introduction to an intriguingly talented lady; revealing itself with each play, we’re confident that, like us, you’ll want to come back to this time and time again.
