A Darkness
We say
When you first discover the rich, soulful voice of Brian Deady, you’ll be struck by how welcoming it is. However, once you scratch the surface of this marvellous song, there’s quite a tale to tell. One of 10 kids brought up in a musical family in West Cork, the Irishman experienced troubled teenage years, thanks to constant upheavals, so he sought solace in songs, like many adolescents. As a writer and producer, he’s found his niche here with a personal, bittersweet track that reminds us vocally of top talent like Gregory Porter and the great Dobie Gray - heartfelt, confessional and with an almost spiritual feel. It was previewed by Skream at Radio 1 and comes from his next album Non-Fiction (due in October) which follows up his acclaimed Interview album. It was with that collection he found huge support at KCRW in Los Angeles, and has shared the stage live with De La Soul, Janelle Monae, Candi Staton and Chic, picking up a glowing testimonial from Nile Rodgers. Here’s an artist you can believe in and connect with. In a world where authenticity counts for so much, you’ll hear that Brian means and feels every word of this.
