We say
Lock is the alias for sisters Gita and Edie Langley. The duo formed last year, recording this moody slice of dark electro pop, produced by Ed Harcourt and mixed by Dimitri Tikovoi, who recently worked on the Charli XCX album. Inspired by their deep childhood love of soundtracks like Betty Blue and that incredible Twin Peaks theme by Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalamenti, you can hear that fondness and respect shine through here. Both girls have quite the musical pedigree and experience, Edie having toured as a session vocalist and Gita is an acclaimed string arranger and player, between them having worked with acts like The Streets, Kasabian, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Mark Ronson and others. She’s also a songwriter in her own right, signed to Snow Patrol’s own Polar Patrol Publishing company. Incidentally there’s a reward currently for the safe return of that neon lightbox used in their artwork, which was nicked before their live gig in Dalston last week. Reminiscent of Lorde and Lana Del Rey, this is atmospheric, ethereal, expertly crafted pop that’s built to last.
