Clearer Coast
We say
Sheffield lads Club & Spades are already big favourites with DJ Charlie Sloth. Not only is he namechecked in the lyrics on this latest track but he returned the favour by premiering this on his Radio 1 rap show before making it his Record Of The Week there and on his BBC 1Xtra programme too. Featuring a strong chorus hook from Tom Prior, production comes from former Arctic Monkeys bass player Andy Nicholson alongside Jamie Shield (also known as Sticky Blood). They recently suported De La Soul and bring a new twist to the live scene with a full band complimenting their UK hip hop sound, mixing it with flashes of funk and punk influences, whilst all the rhymes and flows are delivered with their Yorkshire accents. It all works really well. Telling the story of a home life that’s uncontrollably breaking up around them, it’s honest, emotional and reassuring refreshing in a genre that’s often loaded with cliches and a sense of treading water. Sheffield’s a city that’s been buzzing musically and creatively for decades now. These boys are leading the next wave.
