Preacherman
We say
Quite unlike anything you may have previously heard from Melody Gardot, this gritty bluesy groove ranks amongst her finest work to date. Taken from her forthcoming Currency Of Man album, you can hear the influence of some of her favourite musicians like Nina Simone and Janis Joplin imbued deep in the track. Joining forces again with Grammy Award-winning producer Larry Klein, the track and video were inspired by the tale of Emmett Till, a 14-year old black teen in the 1950’s whose racially-motivated murder sparked outrage at the time and helped galvanise the Civil Rights movement of that era. She’s live on BBC2’s Later With Jools Holland this coming Tuesday night (May 26) and returns to the UK for a dates in London and Cardiff this November. From world music and jazz to now exploring blues and gospel R&B sounds, her current niche is our favourite of all so far. This is moving, stirring, even spiritual stuff that she makes sound wonderfully effortless but you know is filled with true passion, heart and soul.
