We say

The opening track from Use Your Time Wisely, the debut album from US trio Strange Names, is a sparkling slab of power pop that’s both strong on melody and slickly-produced. We’re reminded of some of the great New Wave acts of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s like Talking Heads and XTC, whose music still stands up even today, constantly enthralling every new generation that’s exposed to it. The band formed whilst studying at the University of Minnesota, recorded the album in Minneapolis before then setting their sights on New York and re-recording it all soon after arriving there. What they’ve created is a warm, welcoming, radio friendly sound that’s hugely contemporary, thanks to Andrew Maury (who produced and mixed Panama Wedding's great 2014 EP) and mastering by Joe LaPorta, the Grammy-nominated engineer for Imagine Dragons and Foo Fighters. The band soon heads out on tour with Azealia Banks in the US. Packed with energy and full of killer hooks, prepare for the UK to take them to our hearts when they hit these shores. Make it quick, fellas.
