We say
For 20 years now Róisín Murphy has been making innovative music that’s pushed boundaries and stood out from the rest of her peers. She’s back with Hairless Toys, her first studio album in eight years, recorded with her long-term collaborator Eddie Stevens. This first astonishing track from it is the very definition of Wonky Pop. Brilliantly addictive, deliciously off-centre and up there as one of the best things she’s ever done. Layered with twisted synth lines, flashes of insidious earworms and that oh-so-distinctive voice, it’s already sitting proudly on the the A-list at 6 Music. Sessions with Jo Whiley and Lauren Laverne are in place over the next fortnight, her London Roundhouse gig on May 16 sold out in just 30 minutes and tickets go on sale today (May 1) for a new show at Hammersmith Apollo on November 27. Rave reviews for the album are in from Mojo, Q and Mixmag and she’s headlining the Big Top Tent at Bestival later this summer. If she’s not on the Mercury shortlist this September for this incredible comeback, there’s truly no justice anymore. Soak it in - this is glorious.
