A Beautiful Mind
We say
Hattie Briggs is a 21-year-old who quit uni to pursue her music career just last year. That decision has paid off handsomely with a 2014 Radio 2 Young Folk Award nomination leading to her performing at the Royal Albert Hall. Her first three independently-released singles have all made the UK iTunes singer-songwriter chart, delivered over 10,000 Spotify plays and more than 50,000 YouTube views. She's on tour with Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman (the brother of Seth), promoting her debut album Red & Gold, co-produced by Dan Cassidy, brother of the legendary Eva Cassidy, the launch date of which is in London this Thursday night (March 26) at Islington's Old Queen's Head. This gorgeous song was inspired by the great folk artist and political activist Pete Seeger and the maturity and passion in her voice shines through. We're noticing a significant groundswell of superb young British acoustic acts impacting at grass roots level, away from the perceived musical expectations of what mainstream media thinks most young people are listening to. When they're exposed to it, there’s a real instant human connection and Hattie is their torch-bearer. Keep very close tabs on her.
