Miradors
We say
If you watched JK Rowling's drama series The Casual Vacancy on BBC1 last night, you’ll now be familiar with the music of Solomon Grey. The London-based duo of Tom Kingston and Joe Wilson provided the entire musical soundtrack and this breathtaking song about reflection features in the show. It was written in the wilds of the West Coast of Ireland and on a rural farm in Australia and forms part of their mini-album Selected Works, out this week. The first time we heard the track it just simply blew us away. With echoes of pioneering '80s ambient electronic trio The Blue Nile, we’re reminded of the vocals of their frontman Paul Buchanan and also of the more recent work from James Blake. Dreamy falsetto vocals drenched in reverb are exposed starkly with dramatic strings, retro sounding synths and a driving beat pushing it all along. Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne have already heaped lavish praise on them. A full album comes later in the year and a secret London gig is to be announced soon. We know we’re barely eight weeks into 2015 but this is already sitting at the top of our list for Track Of The Year.
