Seance Of Light
We say
Deliciously addictive right from the off, we’d be stunned if you hear a more instantly likeable track today than this from Jape, a long-running side-project by Richie Egan from the band The Redneck Manifesto. Reminiscent of Violator-period Depeche Mode with a twist of Hot Chip for good measure, Jape is the only act to have won the Ireland’s Choice Music Prize twice. The latest album This Chemical Sea, which is their first new album since 2011’s awarding-winning Ocean Of Frequency, was mainly written and recorded in the Swedish town of Malmo, where Richie relocated a few years ago. It was mixed by David Wrench, noted for his recent work with Jungle, FKA Twigs and Caribou and early support for the track has come from Radio 1 presenters Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Annie Mac. With a European tour starting next week, catch them live at London’s Electrowerkz on February 25. From now until then, if you’ve got any sense, you’ll be wanting this played constantly on a loop.
