Playing their first-ever UK gig in London last night and performing live on Later...With Jools Holland this week, Gedeon Luke And The People bring that vintage Memphis soul sound bang up to date. This first single comes from the debut album Live Free & Love, set for release early next year, which was recorded in proper old-school style with every track cut live to tape. We hear the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Lenny Kravitz and even Terence Trent D'Arby in Luke's cool vocal delivery, full of passion and gospel influences, with the tight punchy rhythm and horn sections behind him grooving away to create a fantastic positive party vibe. It's a million miles away from the bleakness that surrounded his upbringing of gang violence, poverty and drug abuse in his hometown.
