Not Dead Yet
We say
With a song that was written and created on a porch in East Nashville, Emmy's Unicorn are London-based duo Mr Ronz (who's actually a Welshman called Adam) and Emmy Lou-Kay (a self-confessed Northern lass). Their trip to the home of country music came about earlier this year on a whim, despite being almost broke, but resulted in some fabulous music being made, including this featured title track to their debut EP. In the past, they've had previous demos played on BBC 6Music and Radio 1, done a live session for BBC Radio Wales, played at great London venues like Union Chapel and The Social and have provided remixes for acts including Everything Everything and Guillemots. Now though, they've made a conscious decision to focus on this stripped-back, simple acoustic sound after moving away from the normal alt-indie dark, grandiose pop. We think it suits them well. They're promising a second EP pretty soon too with more of the fruits of their labours from Nashville. The way their harmonies blend on the chorus to this song of hope and despair is rather gorgeous. Two voices with quite a story to tell, laying it all on the line, heartfelt and exposed for us all to hear. They're certainly not dead yet. This is just the beginning.
